BY TRAIN - from London to Buxted or Uckfield

There is a direct hourly service from London Bridge to the nearest stations to Rivendell which are Buxted and Uckfield, (which is the last station on the line). If you are travelling from London Victoria or other stations you can also join trains for the Uckfield line at both East Croydon and Oxted.

Please note: Uckfield and Buxted stations do not have taxi ranks and the number of taxis available in the local area is limited. It is often impossible to get a taxi between 4pm-7pm without it having been booked the day before travelling.  

Return Journey

Lifts to the station are usually available at the end of each retreat.

BY BUS
Stagecoach service 29 for Tunbridge Wells, leaving Churchill Square. Please check times at www.buses.co.uk or on 01273 886200. The bus arrives at Uckfield bus station approximately 54 minutes after leaving Brighton. You will need to book a taxi to pick you up from here and complete your journey to Rivendell. BY TAXIS

You will need to book a taxi in advance by telephone. The nearest railway stations to Rivendell, Uckfield and Buxted, do not have taxi ranks and the number of taxis available in the local area is limited. It is often impossible to get a taxi between 4pm-7pm without it having been booked the day before travelling. The cost from Uckfield or Buxted station will be approximately £15-17. When you book do check the price and whether the taxi driver would prefer to pick you up from Uckfield or Buxted railway station.

You can book a FlexiBus ride up to 30 minutes before you want to travel and up to 7 days in advance. Bookings can be made online, using an app and by telephone to our call centre.  At busy times, you can leave a voicemail message and someone will call you back.

You can book up to five seats per trip, subject to availability.

There is a brand new Flexibus app, which you will need to download to book trips from 1 April onwards.

The app is available now from the App Store and Google Play Store.
You can also book via our new online booking portal, or by calling Flexibus on 01273 078203 (10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays).

After 31 March, you will no longer be able to use Ride Pingo to book Flexibus.

Booking confirmation

App bookings will receive a confirmation within the app, with an estimated pick up and drop off time. This time may vary slightly, within a few minutes either side of the estimated time.

Telephone bookings will receive a confirmation phone call where contact details have been provided.

Your ride confirmation will be the zone name and vehicle number plate. The driver will check your booking details when you board. All buses will have the FlexiBus branding on the side and the front.

Receipts are sent via email.

BY CAR

Rivendell is easily accessible by car but parking space is limited.

By Car from the West

Use the M25 to junction 6 south and turn onto the A22 south. Follow the A22 for 23 miles, through East Grinstead and Forest Row, past Maresfield, towards Uckfield. At Black Down Roundabout, (with petrol station), turn left on to the A26 towards Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. Continue towards Crowborough for 4 miles. (Ignore the turning signposted to 'High Hurstwood'.) Pass through Herons Gill and continue on to the 'Crow and Gate' pub, and then take the first right hand turn sign posted to 'High Hurstwood', into Chillies Lane. From here follow directions at the bottom of the page.

By Car from South London

Take the A22 from Croydon and Purley (towards Eastbourne). From Junction 6, follow the A22 for 23 miles, through East Grinstead and Forest Row, past Maresfield, towards Uckfield. At Black Down Roundabout, (with petrol station), turn left on to the A26 towards Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. Continue towards Crowborough for 4 miles. By Car from East London and East Anglia

Travel clockwise on M25; at junction 5 take right fork onto A21, towards Sevenoaks. Continue on A21 until the A26 to Southborough and Tunbridge Wells. Follow the A26 through Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough. 2 miles after the crossroads in the centre of Crowborough take a sharp left turn sign posted to 'High Hurstwood' into Chillies Lane. (If you pass the 'Crow and Gate' pub on the A26 then you have gone too far!). From here follow directions at the bottom of the page.

By Car from Brighton

Head east on A27, towards Eastbourne. Turn left, after Lewes, onto A26 at roundabout, towards Tunbridge Wells. Continue through tunnel and turn right at next roundabout. Continue 9 miles until Little Horsted roundabout. Turn left, (towards London and East Grinstead) as the A26 joins the A22 to go round the Uckfield bypass. After 4 miles, at Black Down Roundabout, (with petrol station), the A22 and A26 divide again. Resume A26, straight ahead, to Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. Continue towards Crowborough for 4 miles. (Ignore the turning signposted to 'High Hurstwood'.) Pass through Herons Gill and continue on to the 'Crow and Gate' pub, and then take the first right hand turn sign posted to 'High Hurstwood', into Chillies Lane. From here follow directions below.

By Car from the Top of Chillies Lane

Continue for 2 miles down Chillies Lane. Rivendell is on the left after a left hand bend in the road - look for the wood 'Rivendell' signs by the gate. Holy Trinity Church and High Hurstwood Primary School are immediately past us on the left. (So if you reach the church and school then you have gone too far!).

Please park as neatly & tightly as possible, parking space is very limited!
