Everyone is an Artist: Exploring Creativity

This retreat is suitable for those who have a regular meditation practice and who regularly attend retreats, a centre or a group within the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. You will also need to be familiar with, and happy to participate in, Triratna Buddhist devotional practice and ritual (puja), be comfortable with extended periods of sitting meditation and the possibility on some retreats of periods spent in silence.

"Artists and meditators have the same longing, to open their minds to new perspectives."

This retreat is for people who value creativity, in whatever form it takes. The opposite of being creative is to be stuck in a habitual rut. If you’re tired of always doing the same things and expecting to get new results, this retreat is for you.

During the retreat, we’ll explore the way making and appreciating art can deepen our understanding of the dharma and how meditation and dharma can open our eyes to art.

The retreat will be primarily about reflecting on the creative process, rather than a time for making major art pieces. Though we invite you to bring your own (small scale) materials, pens, pencils, needles, thread, cameras, etc. We’ll be meditating, reflecting and discussing how we can open ourselves to new, more creative perspectives on life.

Vajradarshini is known for her down to earth approach to Dharma practice. She draws widely on the Buddhist tradition and on contemporary art and culture, weaving them together to create engaging and enjoyable retreats. You can expect a week of reflection and meditation, with some long periods of silence.
