Meditation and the Fire of Imagination - Easter Long Weekend

This retreat is suitable for those who have a regular meditation practice and who regularly attend retreats, a centre or a group within the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. You will also need to be familiar with, and happy to participate in, Triratna Buddhist devotional practice and ritual (puja), be comfortable with extended periods of sitting meditation and the possibility on some retreats of periods spent in silence.

We need myths and symbols to really light up our hearts. We need colour and images for the Buddha's teaching to really come alive, and not just be dry and abstract. How do we incorporate this into our meditation, especially if we think we don't have a very good imagination? Our minds are imagining all the time, and meditation is about having choice, creativity, and receptivity about what we imagine. During this long weekend retreat you'll get an understanding of the Buddhist view of imagination, and a grounding in how to bring more imagination into your meditation practice. You may find this quite transformational in how you meditate, and even what you think meditation is!

Vajragupta is the author of five books on Buddhism, including Wild Awake: Alone, Offline and Aware in Nature. He has taught meditation and Buddhism for over twenty-five years. After four years where he lived a 'homeless' life, spending time at different Buddhist Centres around the world, he is now the Chair of the Croydon Buddhist Centre.
